Oak for Joinery
Using Oak in joinery

Oak is the most popular option for homegrown hardwoods. Used extensively in traditional and contemporary construction methods, Oak has the desired qualities that make long lasting, good looking joinery for individual houses up to large scale commercial building projects.
Pale yellow brown colouring, medium coarse, fairly uniform grained, durable and strong, Oak's credentials for joinery purposes are undoubted. Used externally, Oak will silver down if not finished and issues with Tannin leaching and staining are to be expected. It will not take treatments well but it can be glued or stained and will take interior or exterior finishes.
Available in Air Dried or Kiln Dried T&T boards, dimensions are relative to the size of logs which make up the raw materials. This can mean lengths up to 4.0 or 5.0m and widths up to 300 or 350mm and 600mm across the heart.
It is also possible to select for prime, character and pippy grade Oak depending on the look required.
