Cladding Timber

Local timber for cladding

local timber for cladding

Timber cladding, rainscreens and brise-soleil are increasingly popular as external finishes on any size project, from garden sheds to bespoke homes to commercial buildings.

It's a stylish, inexpensive, durable and sustainable solution to cladding your building. The timber will be a long lasting weatherproof layer that is simple to install, easy to maintain and has great thermal insulation (good old u-values!).

Cladding boards can be fixed vertically, horizontally or diagonally in many variations and can really add to the overall visual impact, not to mention value and appeal, of a building. Shingles and shakes offer yet another dimension to cladding and, although are rooted in the traditional and vernacular, are becoming a contemporary design 'must have'.
Options for timber cladding are usually determined, initially, by visual qualities and this visual element will probably determine the type of profile and the method of installation required.

Choosing the species for your cladding is generally less about the colouring of the species - unless and external finish is to be maintained - and much more about performance, lifespan, profile, availability and cost.

It is worth keeping in mind that all the species of timber for cladding will silver down over time, if left unfinished, with rate depending on orientation and level of exposure to elements. When silvered the different species are only distinguishable from each other by grain and knot pattern.

Also, all of the timber species we supply are naturally durable and therefore do not require a treatment to ensure longlife, good detailing is the key to minimum maintenance and maximum lifetime of the product.
